Counselling

I recently re-located to Glencolmcille in Donegal, Republic of Ireland. Previously, I worked as a counsellor at Walker Technology College and at Streetwise in Newcastle upon Tyne. I was a volunteer counsellor with the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture in Newcastle.

Other clinical experience and training has included play therapy with primary school children through Place2Be in Durham, and work with adult survivors of sexual abuse under the auspices of Someone Cares, Newcastle. I have a Diploma in Counselling (Person-Centred) from Sunderland College. A professional writer, theatre practitioner and lecturer, I am able to use a range of creative approaches with clients where appropriate.

I am able to accept a limited number of private clients to whom I can offer confidential one to one counselling. I can provide support on a range of issues including stress, bereavement, physical and sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, anger, problems at work, in education or in relationships, bullying, assertiveness and confidence building, substance abuse, eating disorders and self-harm and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Experienced in group work, I co-facilitated a group at Nacro in Newcastle for young people who self-harm. I ran a support group for the region's Clown Doctors and was on the Steering Group for the Clown Doctor programme. In 2007-8 I delivered drama workshops to vulnerable young women in Newcastle to raise awareness about mental health for Glasshouse Arts at Them Wifies, a women's community arts organisation on Tyneside.

I subscribe to the ethical guidelines of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).

My fees are €35 an hour. For people on a low income the fee will be reduced.

If you think you or someone you know could benefit from counselling, telephone 087 9410962 to arrange a free introductory session.
