2003-4 - Writer in Residence, ‘Writing Together’. A national project sponsored by NAWE and the Book Trust to promote the use of writers in schools. I helped secondary school students in Middlesbrough and Stockton create and stage their own scripts. 2000-3 - Artist in Residence, Tees and NE Yorkshire NHS Trust. A Year of the Artist post. Creative writing and drama with women’s and youth groups in East Cleveland, and with out-patients at Brotton Hospital. I edited the anthology Writing on Our Bodies, Cleveland Arts, 2002. 2002 – ‘Toes in the Water’, Boldon Nursery. A music, writing and drama residency for under-5s in collaboration with singer Benny Graham, organised by the Customs House, South Shields. 1999 – Writer in Schools, Sunderland Education and Community Services. A Year of Reading project. We produced six playscripts, a songbook and a wealth of poetry and prose. At one primary school I initiated a Native North American story- telling project, at another we adapted a Zimbabwean tale for the stage, at St Robert of Newminster secondary school we focused on street children and Ghana. 1990-1 – Arts Council Resident Dramatist, Cleveland Theatre Company. I spent a year with CTC, researching and writing Hot Potato!, a TIE play for 11-13 year olds and working on a community play. I founded and facilitated Cleveland Playwrights, and acted as literary advisor to the company. I gave talks and workshops in schools and for writers’ groups throughout Cleveland. 1986 – Writer in Residence, Keldholme School and Berwick Hills Library, Middlesbrough. Funded by Northern Arts and Cleveland Libraries and Education. Co-edited the anthology Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, Cleveland County Libraries, 1987. The work at Keldholme culminated in a cabaret evening where 60 young people performed their sketches, songs and poems. |
